Pune–Chakan industrial belt
Industrial engineering in Pune
Pune, Chakan and the surrounding belt are automotive and engineering territory, with dense supply chains of component manufacturers, machine builders and warehouses. The structural demand follows that: production sheds that are extended repeatedly, mezzanines to gain floor area, and platforms and equipment supports built to tight tolerances around installed machinery.
Where we are based
AKEN is registered at Hirakud, Sambalpur, Odisha, with a second office in Bhubaneswar. We hold no office, branch or workshop in Pune — we fabricate in Hirakud and mobilise crews to the site. That is the arrangement, and it is worth knowing before you invite us to quote.
The Pune market
A mature manufacturing belt generates work that is mostly brownfield. Buildings get extended as contracts grow, mezzanines are inserted to recover floor area that no longer exists at ground level, and machines are replaced with larger ones so the support structure and its foundations have to change with them.
This is also a market where production disruption is expensive, so a programme is judged by how little of it happens. That favours shop fabrication, staged delivery and a planned erection sequence over fabricating on site, and it makes temporary stability planning a commercial matter rather than a technical one.

Site and delivery considerations here
The practical constraints that change how a job in Pune has to be planned.
- Brownfield sites often have restricted laydown and limited crane positions; shop fabrication and staged delivery reduce both.
- Production disruption carries real cost, so the erection sequence is planned to minimise time inside live areas.
- Mezzanine insertion requires checking what the existing frame and slab can accept before any design is committed.
FAQ
Working with AKEN in Pune
What has to be checked before adding a mezzanine to our building?
What the existing frame and slab can accept. The options are columns founded on the slab or on new pads, or brackets off the building frame if that frame is checked and able to take the load. Which one applies decides the whole design, so it is the first thing to establish.
Can you work while our production continues?
In most cases yes, sequenced so that live areas are entered for the shortest possible period. That is an argument for shop fabrication and for a planned erection sequence rather than fabricating and fitting incrementally on site.
How long is mobilisation from Odisha?
Hirakud to Pune is around 1,300 km. A project there is planned as a single committed mobilisation with steel shipped against the erection sequence; it is not efficient as repeated short visits.
